Operation Manual

USB-C Connector Electrical Input Requirements

FOSSA Nexus features a USB-C power input interface designed for continuous operation and battery charging. To ensure safe and reliable performance, the following electrical requirements must be met:

Input Voltage: 5 Volts (DC)

Minimum Current Supply: Greater than 1 Ampere

Minimum Power Requirement: 5 Watts

This power input serves two primary functions:

  • Continuous Power Supply: Enables uninterrupted operation of the device when connected to a stable power source.

  • Battery Charging: Recharges the internal battery system when the device is not in transport mode or when charging is required.

Important: Always use certified USB-C power adapters and cables capable of delivering the specified voltage and current. Using underpowered or non-compliant accessories may result in charging failures, reduced performance, or potential damage to the device.

Button Operation

Startup operation

When FOSSA Nexus is delivered, it is shipped in Transport Mode. In this mode, the device remains in an ultra-low power state, with all systems powered off to ensure safety and preserve battery life during transport.

To power ON the FOSSA Nexus when it is transport mode, a long press on the button (approximately 7 seconds) is required. The LED will blink blue to indicate that the press duration has been sufficient and the device can be activated upon releasing the button.

  • Fixed green: The mobile connection is active. If the Wireless Access Point (AP) interface is also active, the green light overrides the blue light.

  • Fixed red: Satellite reception capabilities are active.

  • Alternating colors: If the colors alternate with a steady cadence, it means that more than one state is active simultaneously. For example, if both the Wireless Access Point and the cellular connection are active, the LED will blink blue and green. If the device also has reception capabilities enabled, it will alternate between blue, green, and red.

Button pressed operation

When the button on the FOSSA Nexus is pressed, the device enters a timed selection menu. Depending on how long the button is held before being released, FOSSA Nexus will perform different actions. The LED indicator turns off as soon as it is pressed to provide visual feedback during the press to guide the user through the available options:

  • Short press (0–3 seconds)
If the button is released within the first 3 seconds, the FOSSA Nexus will report its battery status:
  • Green light: Battery level is sufficient (Nominal mode).
  • Red light: Battery level is low (Survival mode).

FOSSA Nexus installation guidelines

Place the FOSSA Nexus device with the FOSSA logo facing the sky, in an open area with no nearby buildings, trees, or other obstacles. This ensures a clear view of the sky and improves the connection with the satellites, resulting in a higher packet success rate.
